Artist Statement
Unique experiences lead to a rich and unique perspective
Creating a work of art is very much like creating a life – giving birth. Each piece begins as a concept or image growing inside, whom I nurture into being, look forward to knowing and form to be an independent being. The relationships are wonderful and challenging. Often my pieces surprise me and become more than I expect or something completely different than I initially imagined them to be. Each piece moves on when she is ready – even if it is hard to let go - but she never really leaves – there is always that connection. My art tells the stories of womankind, from a woman’s perspective, through the amazingly beautiful and miraculous female form.
The path of my life has been a collection of juxtapositions. I grew up with three talented siblings on a hog, corn and soybean farm between two small towns in Northern Illinois. I got my initial experience competing and showing art at rural 4-H fairs, a few years later I was doing a workshop with the renown glass artist Dale Chihuly, then studying in a villa near Florence, Italy – surrounded by the voices of opera singers and admiring the works of a multitude of amazing masters of art. I worked at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and installed the artifacts of Pompeii and paintings of Matisse. I sold art in Santa Fe New Mexico and I was a caterer in Hollywood. I was born land locked – on flatlands surrounded by cornstalks - then lived in the mountains with awe inspiring vistas and on a sail boat in the greater Los Angeles area. These are a few examples of the interesting twists life has provided so that I create with a rich palette of perspective and inner depth.
I work in my studio in the south hills of Eugene, Oregon and I am the Art Director and co-founder of Infinity Art Gallery. www.InfinityArtGallery.com
